In the past 5 years, plywood exports in Vietnam have had miraculous growth steps from 1% of the world market share in 2015 to 5% of the total global export market, ranking 5th in the world in terms of exports - According to information from the Association of Exporters of Wood and Agricultural Products of Vietnam.
If in 2015, plywood production only reached 724 thousand m3, then by 2020, despite the heavy impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and US and Korean investigations on trading, Vietnam has exported up to 2.09 million m3, increasing the export turnover of this item from 200 million USD to 659.74 million USD.

Plywood exports in Vietnam account for a large market share in the world with a variety of customers in different countries, but the main markets are still 5 countries: Korea, USA, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand, accounting for more than 84% of total export volume and value of turnover.
Leading the way is South Korea with an import value of $211.03 million with more than 805.19 thousand cubic meters in 2020, accounting for 38% of the total wood export volume in Vietnam.
The US ranked second with 25% in volume, with 243.52 million USD of export value and 517.88 thousand m3.
Malaysia, Japan and Thailand with production percent are 29%, 8% and 7% accounts for the total plywood export of our country with export value of 62.81 million USD, 43.24 million USD and $42.92 million respectively in export value in 2020.

With the advantage of making the most of natural wood materials, more than round solid wood, but having high durability such as waterproof, not affected by the external environment which causes termites, warping, wood. Plywood is a good economical choice. Moreover, plywood can cover the surface with many different types to create the value and aesthetics of the product, suitable for many designs and uses of consumers such as: packaging, making furniture, making building materials, ... and input products for wood designs. This is a trending product of the wood industry around the world.

The top 5 largest plywood exporting countries in the world are China with 30% market share, Indonesia with 2nd place with 11% market share of the world, Russia with 8% and Malaysia with 6% and Vietnam with 5%.
Along with the world's consumer trend of switching to environmentally friendly, durable and lightweight quality, industrial plywood will continue to be a trend of the current technical wood background.
The current challenge is, Vietnam needs to have a plan for sustainable development of wood sources so as not to depend on imports and lack of raw materials in the long term. FOMEX GROUP
