Single Form vs Standard Form vs Premium Form vs Promax: Which Film Faced Grade Is Right for Your Project?

Compare Single, Standard, Premium and Promax film faced plywood grades. See differences in reuse cycles, glue content, performance and find the right option for your project.

When you choose film faced plywood for formwork, the grade you pick has a direct impact on reuse cycles, concrete finish, and total cost per use.

FOMEX Greenwood offers four main film faced plywood grades – Single Form, Standard Form, Premium Form and Promax Form – so buyers can match panel performance with application, budget and expected reuse cycles.

Overview of FOMEX GREENWOOD Film Faced Plywood Grades

The FOMEX Greenwood lineup is structured to give you a clear path from entry-level panels to heavy-duty, high-reuse formwork solutions.

The core concept is simple: higher grade = higher glue content and boiling hours = more reuses and better performance under demanding conditions.

Single Form – Entry Level for 2–3 Reuses

Single Form is the entry-level film faced plywood grade, designed for projects with limited reuse requirements and tight budgets.

It typically has one side covered with film-paper and the other side with core veneer, making it suitable for simple structures, small pours, or situations where panels are not expected to be reused many times.

  • Target reuse cycles: approx. 2–3 reuses under proper handling
  • Face/back: one film face, one core veneer face
  • Ideal for: one-off pours, low-rise residential work, secondary formwork

Standard Form – 4–8 Reuses for Regular Projects

Standard Form is the workhorse grade for many contractors, offering a good balance between cost and performance.

Both sides are coated with standard-quality dark brown phenolic film, providing better surface durability and more stable reuse cycles than entry-level panels.

  • Target reuse cycles: approx. 4–8 reuses
  • Face/back: double-sided phenolic film (standard quality)
  • Ideal for: regular commercial and residential projects, mid-size contractors

Premium Form – 8–12 Reuses for Demanding Projects

Premium Form is designed for more demanding projects where higher reuse cycles, better concrete finish and reduced formwork waste are important.

It uses higher-quality phenolic film on both sides and higher glue content, making it more resistant to water, heat and jobsite abuse.

  • Target reuse cycles: approx. 8–12 reuses
  • Face/back: double-sided high-quality phenolic film
  • Ideal for: high-rise buildings, commercial complexes, infrastructure projects

Promax Form – 15–20 Reuses for Heavy-Duty Formwork

Promax Form is the top-grade solution in the FOMEX Greenwood range, engineered for heavy-duty formwork with the highest reuse expectations.

With the highest glue content and longest boiling hours, Promax Form is built for contractors and rental systems that need panels to perform consistently over long project cycles.

  • Target reuse cycles: approx. 15–20 reuses
  • Face/back: double-sided high-quality phenolic film
  • Ideal for: bridges, tunnels, large infrastructure, long-cycle high-rise projects

Technical Specifications by Grade (Comparison Table)

Although application and handling conditions will always influence actual performance, the technical parameters of each grade provide a clear benchmark for decision-making.

The table below summarizes key differences between Single Form, Standard Form, Premium Form and Promax Form within the FOMEX Greenwood film faced plywood range.

Parameter Single Form Standard Form Premium Form Promax Form
Face / Back One side film-paper, one side core veneer Two sides black/dark brown phenolic film (standard quality) Two sides black/dark brown phenolic film (high quality) Two sides black/dark brown phenolic film (high quality)
Core Eucalyptus / Acacia / Mixed hardwood Eucalyptus / Acacia / Mixed hardwood Eucalyptus / Acacia / Mixed hardwood Eucalyptus / Acacia / Mixed hardwood
Thickness range 9–30 mm 9–30 mm 9–30 mm 9–30 mm
Thickness tolerance ±0.5 mm (typical) ±0.5 mm (typical) ±0.5 mm (typical) ±0.5 mm (typical)
Indicative reuse cycles Up to 3 Up to8 Up to 12 Up to 20

Face/Back: Film Paper vs Phenolic Film

The main visible difference between grades is the face/back configuration: Single Form uses a single film side plus a core veneer side, while the other three grades feature double-sided phenolic film with varying quality levels.

For applications where both sides are exposed or where boards will be reused intensively, double-sided phenolic film (Standard, Premium, Promax) is usually the safer choice.

Core: Eucalyptus/Acacia/Mixed Hardwood

All four grades use plantation hardwood cores such as Eucalyptus and Acacia, sometimes blended with mixed hardwood for optimal balance of strength, weight and cost.

This consistency in core species allows you to upgrade or downgrade grade while keeping similar structural behavior and handling characteristics on site.

Thickness Range & Tolerance (9–30 mm, ±0.5 mm)

Across the FOMEX Greenwood range, thickness typically runs from 9–30 mm, covering common dimensions like 12 mm, 15 mm, 18 mm and 21 mm used in global formwork standards.

Tight thickness tolerance (around ±0.5 mm) supports safer and more stable formwork systems, especially when panels are used with beams, shores and formwork accessories that depend on consistent dimensions.

Glue Content & Boiling Hours (8–25%, 6–48h)

The most important hidden difference between grades is glue content and corresponding boiling hours – the higher these values, the better the panel typically performs under water, heat and load.

Single Form starts with lower glue content and shorter boiling hours for basic requirements, while Promax Form reaches the highest glue content and longest boiling hours for the most demanding, high-reuse projects.

How to Match Grade with Project Requirements

Small Projects / Limited Reuses → Single / Standard

For small-scale projects, simple residential work or jobs where panels will only be reused a few times, Single Form and Standard Form are usually sufficient.

They offer a competitive entry price and reasonable performance, as long as you do not expect long reuse cycles or extremely harsh conditions.

  • Single Form: 2–3 reuses, budget-focused, basic formwork
  • Standard Form: 4–8 reuses, suitable for regular contractors and mid-size projects

Large Infrastructure / High Reuse → Premium / Promax

For large infrastructure, high-rise towers, long-cycle projects or rental formwork fleets, Premium Form and Promax Form are generally the safer and more economical choice.

Higher glue content, longer boiling hours and better film quality help maintain panel integrity, reduce replacement needs and ensure consistent concrete finish over time.

  • Premium Form: 8–12 reuses, ideal for demanding but not extreme conditions
  • Promax Form: 15–20 reuses, targeted at heavy-duty, high-turnover applications

Budget vs Cost per Use: How Higher Grade Reduces Total Cost

Many buyers initially focus only on price per sheet, but a more accurate approach is to look at cost per use.

Even if Premium or Promax panels cost more per sheet, their significantly higher reuse cycles can reduce the total number of panels required and cut labor and replacement costs over the life of a project.

  • Lower grades → lower price per sheet but fewer reuses
  • Higher grades → higher price per sheet but lower cost per use
  • Optimal choice → grade that minimizes total project cost, not just material cost

Common Mistakes When Choosing Film Faced Plywood

Focusing Only on Price per Sheet, Not Reuse Cycles

One of the most common mistakes is selecting the cheapest film faced plywood without calculating how many times it can realistically be reused.

Cheap panels that fail after only a few uses can create higher total costs due to frequent replacement, extra labor, more waste and inconsistent concrete finish.

Ignoring Glue Content and Boiling Hours

Another frequent mistake is ignoring glue content and boiling hours, which directly relate to bond strength and water resistance.

Without understanding these technical parameters, buyers may assume two panels with similar appearance are equivalent, even though their durability and performance in harsh conditions can be very different.
